I'm planning a couple of 14ers this summer. Wilson Pk mid July, Blanca or La Plata/Harvard late August. Also Wheeler Pk in NM late June. Always welcome company from us flatlanders.

Hello, just climbed Mt Eolus, Sunlight and Windom Peak. Awesome climbs

I would not recommend doing Longs past August, when it starts to snow on the summit it is almost impossible to climb. It is a great summer climb, very difficult 3, but after it starts to get cold, I would not recommend it. Too many boulders to crack an ankle on.

Hey Mikey,
Is the climb still on?

Check out this website. It has a lot of trip reports with pics from different times of the year.

It's definitely doable, but it will take much different equipment from summer hikes (4 season tents, sub zero sleeping bags, avalanche tools - beacon, shovel, probe, crampons, skis/snowshoes, crampons...) One of the main concerns that time of year is snow stability. At night the snow will freeze rock hard and by noon-2 p.m. it will be like a slushy and therefore the avalanche dander increases exponentially. So you have to start EARLY so you can be off the mountain before the avalanche danger rises.

Hey Mikey,
A climb in the Sangre de Cristos in late March sounds interesting. It should be a full on snow climb. If everyone going is well versed in snow safety, I'd be interested...
